Storytelling: The Ugly Duckling.

The Ugly Duckling is a popular fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The tale has seen various  adaptations, turning the spotlight to the little duckling whose fate is linked with verbal abuse, rejection, loneliness, and disappointment. The tale gives a wonderful opportunity to discuss these topics with the whole class.

Students of Grade 0B were asked to draw an ugly duckling by making a smooth stroke, trying to not let the pencil or a marker pause before the picture is finished. Then they used pastels to put the finishing touches, and thus complete the task.

Halloween: Black cats sneak up on...;-)

Halloween is coming soon! Students of grade 0b wanted to contribute to the idea of common preparations and have an impact on the final look of their classroom. They were delighted not only to cut out the shapes of the black cats and make them look a bit scary (Halloween-like), but what is more, they offered their own ideas and brought them into effect ;-)

Once the students cut out the shapes, they felt free to put some finishing touches on the pictures. Below you may see the results of their work:

Storytelling: Three Little Pigs and...

We have recently practiced retelling the traditional story of Three Little Pigs and a Big Bad Wolf. However, there are many other stories inspired by this popular tale. Some of them are twisted, they present another inverted version of the story. And here we start doubting whether this classic tale gives a trustworthy account  of what really happened. Not always a wolf is a bad character. Each story can be told with a different point of view.

"The True Story of 3 Little Pigs" by Jon Scieszka

"Three Pigs, One Wolf and Seven Magic Shapes" by Grace Maccarone

The children's task was to change the picture of the wolf in a way that it looked friendly, funny, cute and huggy ;-)
